@dosdotnet81993 years ago theres some tractors that idle at 0 rpm by having the crank shaft not do a full rotation and because of the way the idling works the engine can run backwards 3

@PWalden7624 years ago My brother and I traded a Chevy Suburban with a blown transfer case and a bazillion miles that we had gotten for 500 bucks for a 96 Econoline van with a 300 straight six and a 3 speed C6 transmission. The guys we traded with knew what they were getting, and I'm not sure why they wanted to do it, because we've been using it as a work van for years after building out the back with shelves for our tools, and a bulkhead to keep everything in place. Was just at my parents house building a fence yesterday, and their neighbor has a Chevy truck with the Vortec 8100. 2 of the engines on this list right next to each other and I didn't even appreciate it! ... 1

@TheUphillracer4 years ago Mark Walker, who built the Darracq has put together or restored a number of very low revving cars over the last 30 years. My favourite is the GN Thunderbug with a 5.2 litre Vee twin built on a very early Riley crankcase. For the Brits Mark is one of the family that founded Walkers Crisps in Leicester. ... 1

@3800S14 years ago Lowest revving car I ever had was the vw type 3, with red line around 4600 or so, it was also the slowest car I ever had.
Also the BMW v12 is the same solution a guy I know came up with for engines over 8 cylinder for delco 808 ECU conversions. Real time tuning of dual ECUs via the same PC/laptop is pretty neat, they are seen as one unit by the software. ...

@CaptainCrutch4 years ago Here’s one you missed: The Mack 707, 707 cubic inches of inline 6 that idles at 350 RPM and redlines at either 2500 or 2600 RPM. It’s got dual distributors, dual sets of ignition coils, all combined to make 250 BHP and an immense amount of torque. They were put in Mack firetrucks from the 40s to the 70s and Mack semi trucks in the 50s. ... 1

@RuralTowner4 years ago I have a 62 International Harvester Scout 80 w/ the original 152 ci (2.5L) 4 cylinder. Out on desert runs I've had the thing down as low as barely reaching 400 RPM after I hit soft sand while in 4W-LO. Could almost count the firing strokes being exhausted out the pipe. But that motor originates from the 304 (but with the left bank missing) which makes them both industrial-grade, HEAVY chunks of iron meant for low rpm chugging or will happily run full throttle @ 4400 rated rpm day in...day out...week after week...month after month...non stop. Especially when paired water pumps (for the V8s) for fields back in the day. ...

  • @
@archygrey90934 years ago I got an old lister Type R stationery engine from about 1912, its a massive 8hp single cylinder that runs at 650 rpm

  • @
@ValentineC1374 years ago Another significant limit on the rev limit on engines is the speed the piston is moving at inside the cylinders, very few engines are able to get past the 25 meters/s 'barrier' 1
